“Sunday we broke up, Monday we had sex, Tuesday I had therapy…..”

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, isn’t it? I suggested to my partner that the title above would be an excellent title for her next book. Because that’s exactly & literally what happened this week.

Surely there were some tears and anger and resentments on display on both sides. But it is amazing how when each person speaks their own truth and the other person actually listens, then healing can take place. All the past grievances and injustices can sort of melt away.

The catalyst for all of this was watching a movie Saturday night on Amazon Prime called “Together” with James McAvoy & Sharon Horgan. Amazing performances.

An inspiration to blog daily..

How many times do we hear a good idea before we decide to put it into action? For me, the answer is lots. I just saw a Seth Godin interview that reminded me what a good idea it is to write and publish something daily. Irrespective of how many read your blog, we grow by forming new thoughts, ideas, concepts and seeing how they hold up in the light of day.

There is something magical about expressing yourself honestly and with vulnerability. In fact, every time you do it, you’re more likely to do it again. And to continue getting better at it.

There is a new movie out on Amazon Prime– “Together”– with James McAvoy and Sharon Horgan. It was quite incredible. A couple living through the Covid lockdown in the UK for a year and a half. We never know their names. Because they are mostly talking directly to the camera– to the audience. Occasionally interrupting each other to get their own point of disagreement across to the audience. Their relationship is incredibly acrimonious. What’s noteworthy is the level of honesty that each character is able to express to the audience in a way they would never do directly. But because they are stuck together in lockdown with no way to escape, things progress in a way that is both dramatic and shocking. I highly recommend spending 2 hours with these incredible actors.

I must act myself would it take to be that fucking honest? … But with a willingness to listen to bile, resentment, anger and to stand in place. To not run away. Not so easy.

Please give us your thoughts after you watch the film.

Globe trotting teacher, Rachel Punter, interviewed in Singapore

Rachel is a friend I met in Quito back in 2009. She is a beautiful example of a woman who owns her greatness and really enjoys the fuck out of her life. She typically will have a 2-3 year teaching assignment in an exotic locale like Ethiopia or New Zealand or Hong Kong. Then when her assignment is complete, she travels around the world for 6 months to a year before taking a new assignment. A very brave woman.
